Individual Therapy
Individual therapy (sometimes called psychotherapy or counseling) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained or licensed therapist—in a safe, warm, and confidential environment— to explore a variety of areas in the client’s life. Common areas of discussion in Individual Therapy include the client’s feelings, beliefs, and behaviors.
Below is a list of common outcomes clients experience while practicing Individual Therapy:
Exploring challenging or trying memories from their past
Identifying aspects of their lives that they would like to change
Better understanding themselves, their relationships, or their current life state
Setting personal goals and working toward desired outcomes
COUPLES THERAPY
Couples Therapy (sometimes called couples counseling or relationship counseling) is a form of therapy that supports people in intimate relationships.
Common reasons partners may seek Couples Therapy:
Partners are considering separation
Partners are seeking improved intimacy in their relationship
Partners wish to better understand one another
While the relationship itself is the focus in couples counseling, each partner is expected to pay attention to their own self-improvement and self-awareness.
FAMILY THERAPY
Family therapy is a branch of psychotherapy that works with families and couples to nurture relationships and improve communication. Family therapists help individuals express needs appropriately, make compromises, and establish boundaries to strengthen the family unit.
Common reasons families seek Family Therapy:
Processing a death in the family
Coping with a lay-off
Substance abuse
A birth or adoption in the family
Remarriage
A child’s behavioral issues
Regardless of whether the current challenge is seen as an “individual” or a “family” issue, it is believed that involving the family is beneficial.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative form of psychotherapy that has been extensively researched and proven effective in resolving traumatic memories in the brain.
EMDR has been proven effective for the treatment of:
Trauma
Anxiety
PTSD
Depression
Panic Disorders
EMDR sessions are less focused on talk and are more focused on processing of memories.
Substance Use Disorder Counseling
Substance Use Disorder Counseling addresses the ways in which drugs and alcohol affect people physically, emotionally and mentally as well as in their relationships. With the assistance of a counselor trained in chemical dependency, this form of therapy helps clients to find new ways of dealing with difficulties in their lives without relying on alcohol or other drugs.
This form of therapy works to:
Break the cycle of addiction
Improve health and wellness
Reclaim independence from addiction
Overcome the stigma associated with addiction
MAP BHC also offers Substance Use Disorder Counseling for people who are concerned about their use of alcohol or other drugs but may not yet be struggling with addiction.
ART
Accelerated Resolution Therapy assists clients suffering from trauma and other mental health problems.
ART has been proven effective for the treatment of:
Post Traumatic Stress
Depression
Grief
Phobias
Anxiety
Addiction
ART works directly with the brain to reprogram distressing memories or images.
Telemental Health
To make behavioral health services more accessible to community members, our independently contracted providers offer telemental health or online counseling services.
Telemental Health is an excellent resource for clients who:
Lack mental health resources in their community
Lack means of transportation
Are physically or emotionally unable to travel
Are at risk for infection
Our independently contracted providers offer telehealth for Minnesota and Wisconsin residents.
Telemental Health uses HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms, which involve online video-conferencing and guarantee client confidentiality.
Online Medication Management
We now offer Psychiatric Medication Management with our telemedicine partner, Dr. Kari Rengo, APRN, PMHNP-BC. Medication management is the process she uses to ensure that our patients are receiving the greatest benefit and best possible outcomes from their medications.
Contact us at 218-606-1797 or message into Klara for more information.
Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Evaluations
We offer ESA evaluations with our partnering providers to determine if a patient requires an emotional support animal to alleviate specific symptoms of their mental health disorder. With the help of an emotional support animal many patients relieve the suffering related to their mental health disorder and learn the use of adaptive coping skills and independence.
Learn more here about this type of evaluation here.
Psychotherapy for Executive Function Dysregulation
MAP BHC offers a time-limited psychotherapy program for individuals with dysregulated executive functioning.
“Executive functioning” is the higher-level processes that our brains use - think of planning, problem solving, impulse control, organization, and attention. The things that many people struggle with - particularly if you have trauma, depression, anxiety, or ADHD. Often when we have problems in these kind of areas, life can feel overwhelming and unmanageable.
If you feel that you could use some therapeutic support in managing your mental health and developing improved skills to better regulate your executive functioning, click here to learn more about the program.
DIALECTICAL BEHAVIORAL THERAPY SKILLS GROUP
We offer a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Group. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) was developed by Marsha Linehan. It is an effective and empirically supported therapy that emphasizes teaching skills that will help in coping with significant mental health concerns. DBT consists of a combination of weekly individual psychotherapy and group skills training. Learn more about this skills group here.
